    Why I cook

    Why I cook

"Eating is so intimate. It's very sensual. When you invite someone to sit at your table and you want to cook for them, you're inviting a person into your life." - Maya Angelou

This week I had the privilege of cooking a class at our local grocery store with my mother who was visiting from Italy.

As you can tell from the photo we enjoyed ourselves immensely.

You might be asking, "What does the local leather bag merchant have to do with cooking and dinners?" Well, everything really.

See I am passionate about things that are real. Real emotions. Real senses. Real life. I find that looking into a friend's eyes over a great dinner listening to their story is such a real moment in life. As Maya says, "It's very sensual." It activates the senses.

Sadly I find that the joy of communing over food has largely been lost in America. While back at home in Italy the evening meal is a chance to connect, wind down, laugh, and live, here it is largely something on the day's to do list. I see so many families grab food from a drive thru on the way home and even eat it in the car. Life is too short. Too short to miss talking with your friends and family. Too short to not savor amazing dishes.

Twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall I slow the pace with my clients and host a dinner. The goal is to connect. I am inviting them into my life. They are inviting me into theirs. It is beautiful.

Last spring we had a beautiful dinner at K Restaurant next door to the boutique. Before and after we hung out at the boutique and told stories and laughed and had an amazing time.

Never pass up the opportunity to reconnect with old friends or make new ones over a meal.

If you have the opportunity to join me at our next client meal, please do so. It will be an evening to remember.

Check for our next scheduled dinner.
